Here are 7 tips for long- term sustainability in business – no matter what leadership position you have within the company.

BE CURIOUS AND KEEP EVOLVING

“It’s important to be innovative,” says Nikki, “because what got you to where you are today won’t get you to where you want to be tomorrow. If you’re not learning new things or having your team learn and share those learnings, there’s no way you’re going to continue to grow.”

Curiosity is crucial for business sustainability. It fuels evolution and growth by keeping the passion alive. Without it, progress stalls.

SPEAK UP

“Have an opinion. Have a voice,” Nikki advised. “If you’re not being given the room or trust you’ve earned, don’t retreat into silence. You’re in your position for a reason. You have valuable insights and innovative ideas. So, make sure your voice is heard. Doing so not only asserts your presence but also fosters meaningful connections.” Ensure you’re heard by advocating for yourself and being proactive.

BUILD STRONG RELATIONSHIPS

“Networking evolves throughout your career,” Nikki notes. “Initially, I immersed myself in various networking opportunities, but over time, I’ve become more selective. Networking still remains a crucial aspect of my professional life. The key is to cultivate your network and relationships authentically, focusing on genuine connections rather than approaching interactions with expectations.”

BUILD THE RIGHT TEAM

For entrepreneurs juggling various roles, I’ve learned that growth involves implementing systems, processes, and delegating tasks to the right people. Effective leadership means guiding the direction and understanding

your unique role in propelling the business forward. Ensuring long-term success requires recognizing the need for a supportive team.

BE THE LEADER YOUR TEAM NEEDS

“It’s important to be open from the trust and vulnerability perspective,” Nikki explained. “Employees expect leaders to be trustworthy, accountable, vulnerable, and follow through with what they say they’re going to do.”

LEARN TO LET GO

“I think one of the biggest struggles in my career was stepping into management and learning how to pull back,” says Nikki. “I learned you can’t be in all things. You need to teach, empower, delegate. Set clear expectations and hold people accountable, but give them the opportunity to rise, knowing you support them.”

As type A personalities and now mothers and entrepreneurs, Nikki and I value work-life balance. Surround yourself with supportive people who share your vision to excel both personally

and professionally.

BE UNIQUELY YOU

Achieving lasting success in business hinges on self-belief and a commitment to your path. Your achievements reflect your effort and individuality. Keep pushing for growth and excellence to avoid becoming complacent. I’ve learned this constant pursuit of improvement and adherence to your core values are crucial for long-term sustainability.

Just remember to stay true to yourself while adapting to change, ensuring you’re always moving forward and ready for future challenges. In the end, you’ve got this!
