Eyes, Lips, Brows, Oh-My!

You’re getting your makeup done for an event and you look amazing! You might think to yourself, “I wish I woke up like this every day.” Or “I love how I look with makeup on – but I don’t have time for all that in my morning routine!” As a makeup artist, how I apply makeup can be a lengthy process with many tools, products, and techniques and certainly not necessary on an everyday basis. So semi-permanent makeup may be just the right option for you.

The main reasons why people consider semipermanent makeup are because:

  • They want an option to enhance their natural beauty without the fuss of products and tools; and
  • They need to minimize their daily beauty routine. Having your main facial features enhanced, that is your brows, eyes, and lips, will allow you to focus on your base beauty routine (skincare and/or foundation steps) and save time.

However, it is important to weigh the benefits and risks equally before choosing to have permanent pigment injected into your skin. Semi-permanent, permanent, cosmetic tattooing, and micro-pigmentation are truly all the same things in the makeup industry. Technicians in this field tend to call it whatever makes sense to the demographic that they serve. However, how permanent the pigmentation is basically related to how deep they place the pigment into your skin. Keep in mind there are semi-permanent options that may be less costly and those are referenced below.

Areas of the face that people tend to seek semi/permanent options for are:

BROWS – (Permanent) Pigmentation / microblading (Semi-permanent in stores) Brow tattoo products

EYES – (Permanent) Liner (Semi-Permanent) Lash extensions / (Semi-permanent in stores) Lash enhancing products

LIPS – (Permanent) Micropigmentation to the lips, Lip fillers (semi-permanent in stores) Lip plumping products, Lip stains

MAJOR THINGS TO CONSIDER:

  1. Research the technician and their skill level. Once it’s done, there is no turning back for several months or even up to a year.
  2. If you follow a faithful skincare routine daily – fading can occur if you have oily skin, you exfoliate often, or due to increased sun exposure.
  3. Do more research! Book a few consultations with reputable salons before committing to any service.

MY TAKE AS A MAKEUP ARTIST:

I’m not a fan of the permanent/semipermanent pigment options for myself. But, I do have respect for the skills of others in the field. Semi-permanent lash and brow options are highly popular these days and having your brows and lashes done when you wake up is a time saver as they can take the longest time to perfect in any routine. In addition, having these areas already “made up” may offer the ability to focus on proper skincare as sensitivity/allergies to makeup products can be another reason to try semipermanent options.

Here’s a bonus! Have a makeup artist do your makeup first with a focus on how you’d like your brows and eyes done for a natural, enhanced look. Take a picture as a guideline to use in your consultation.
