LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

When I was younger, I’m not certain if I saw myself as a leader or a follower. What I do know is that my DNA was made up of the words, “I can.” That’s because my siblings and I weren’t allowed to use the words, “I can’t” in our home. Throughout my school years, and into early adult, I found that I was typically leading in some capacity.

I had great visions about what was possible and brought those visions to life.

Today, I recognize that I gained my strength and courage from my grandfather. I also followed the examples of my mother, aunts, grandmother and the village of women in my church community and schools – from those who walked the journey before me – and from the extraordinary women working among us today. Because of them, I can and I do.

As we head into 2020 and a new decade, Career Mastered Magazine celebrates the 40th year of Women’s History Month and the 6th Anniversary of Career Mastered Women’s Leadership Awards under the theme: Visionary Women Who Lead by Example. With Hilton Head Island, South Carolina as the backdrop for this celebration, along with our sponsors, we’re thrilled to host women from across the nation.

Our highly coveted leadership awards give spotlight to powerful women who have made a compelling mark on business and who are examples of clear role model leadership for the
next generation. Since 2015, Career Mastered has honored more than 150 women across multiple disciplines in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Finance, Arts and Business (STEM-FAB©) and provided scholarships to youth who desire to lead.

In this issue, we introduce you to the Class of 2020 Career Mastered Leadership in Action Award honorees and the Diversity Leadership Award honorees. These women exemplify the attributes of Iconic. Presence. Power.

As you read through this issue, you will be drawn to learn more about the women we’ve highlighted who lead by example.

Here’s to you and all women leaders who are leading the way. Enjoy this issue of Career Mastered!

Warmly,
