The Power of Capacity: Letter From The Publisher

BY: DR.LISA WICKER

In this new era, women are writing the next chapters in HERstory! On January 20, 2021, Vice President-Elect Kamala Devi Harris shattered the limits becoming the new face of political power. Her ascension to the second-highest office in the land, Vice President of the United States of America, is a triumphal entrance into a future that is truly female. She has broken the ceiling with numerous firsts – the first woman Vice President, the first Black woman Vice President, the first Asian woman Vice President, the First Vice President to hold a degree from Howard University, a Historically Black College (HBCU), and the first Vice President to hold membership in the oldest Black sorority in the nation, Alpha Kappa, Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Take a closer look. Vice President Kamala Harris’ inauguration outfit color choice, purple, was a nod to the legendary Shirley Chisholm, who also aimed for the White House decades earlier. Her 2020 history[1]making election is now and forever a visible representation for millions of women and girls across the world. Vice President Kamala Harris assures us, “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last.” This March during Women’s History Month, Career Mastered Magazine is honored to celebrate the historic win to the White House by a very savvy and smart woman of color, Madam Vice President Kamala Harris.

In this issue we cover “Women’s History: The Rise of Women in the Political Arena, American Women – 100 Years of Female Leaders in Politics.” Further, we showcase many of today’s savvy women in politics, consider their winning attributes and shine a light on the power of their capacity to succeed. While these women have chosen politics as their career paths, they have also learned that being politically savvy can lead to desired outcomes in a positive, authentic manner. They know themselves and have wisdom to know what is going on around them. They give us hope. And we expect that within these pages you find hope, inspiration, and the chance to dream of better days ahead after a tumultuous past year.

Career Mastered Magazine invites you to celebrate our 7th Annual Career Mastered Women’s History Leadership in Action Class of Honorees. These women are game-changers who are making a difference each and every day in the marketplace while giving back to future generations. We also acknowledge our Excel Village LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart Scholarship recipients. Our goal is to create winning futures for generations to come. We bridge education, training, business and communities together in support of preparing the next generation of youth to be successful through career planning, mentoring, and scholarship programs.

Alone we can do so little. Working collectively to better ourselves is paramount. That’s why we continue to share valuable career tools, lifestyle tips and financial education in every issue.

Spring is truly here, and the colorful blooming flowers are out to prove it. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let us learn to identify the power of community and use our capacity to bloom where we are planted.

Enjoy!
