Here’s the thing about personal branding that most people get wrong: it’s not about self-promotion. The leaders who actually stand out aren’t just focused on their own visibility. They’re known for helping others succeed. When you build a reputation for opening doors and creating real opportunities, your brand takes care of itself. Supporting other women leaders isn’t just a good strategy. It’s a smart strategy.

CREATE RESOURCES THAT SCALE BEYOND YOU

Want to build authority? Package what you know into something others can actually use. Frameworks, tools, programs. Things that help people succeed without you having to be in the room.

As a board member of the Berkley Chamber of Commerce, I helped launch a small business growth coaching and advisory program. I also run workshops and keynotes that give business owners strategies they can use right away. When people can take your knowledge and run with it, you become known for getting results.

MAKE STRATEGIC INTRODUCTIONS AND CONNECTIONS

Being a connector is currency. When you introduce the right people to each other, you’re showing that you have a strong network and good judgment.

I do this through the Legal Marketing Association, the Detroit Athletic Club Mentorship Society, and the Southeast Michigan Business Chamber. Creating pathways for people to contribute and lead builds the whole community, not just individual relationships.

Suzanne Cory of The Cory Group is a perfect example. She told me, “Nicole didn’t just welcome me into the Berkley Chamber. She created opportunities for me to lead and contribute in meaningful ways. From joining the Membership and Growth Committee to co-hosting The Berkley Podcast, she connected me with the right people and platforms to expand my visibility and impact. Being part of this community has opened doors for my business that I never would have found on my own.”

When the people you support succeed, it proves you know how to develop talent and build communities that work.

PUBLICLY SPONSOR RISING TALENT

Use whatever platform you have: LinkedIn, board positions, speaking gigs, etc. to spotlight other people’s work. Through my board roles and mentorship work, I’ve been able to champion emerging leaders and make space for their voices. When people you’ve sponsored do well, it builds your reputation as someone who develops talent, not just chases the spotlight.

SHARE KNOWLEDGE GENEROUSLY

Every workshop, every podcast, every piece of real advice you give out positions you as someone who knows their stuff. The more people you help succeed, the wider your influence spreads. It’s that simple.
In a market where everyone’s screaming for attention, being known as someone who scales others makes you unforgettable. Your edge isn’t just what you accomplish. It’s who you bring with you. This week, pick one woman in your network you can actively support. Make an introduction, share her work, and create an opportunity for her to lead. When you scale others, you scale yourself.
